About
I’m a Certificated Flight Instructor offering practical, professional instruction for students, rated pilots, and those who simply want to feel more comfortable around aviation. Whether you're earning a certificate, sharpening existing skills, overcoming a fear of flying, or preparing to become a confident "pinch hitter" should your pilot ever become unable to fly, my focus is always the same: building confidence, strong fundamentals, and sound decision-making.
By background, I’m a mechanical engineer and former Engineering Officer aboard ocean-going vessels, where I developed a deep appreciation for complex systems, disciplined operations, and real-world problem solving. Throughout that career, I never let go of a childhood passion for aviation. It has been a constant thread through experiences that have taken me around the world. Now based in California, I’ve found there’s nothing quite like flying here. From coastal fog to mountain air, it’s one of the most dynamic and rewarding places to learn. Sharing that experience with new pilots just getting started— or seasoned aviators looking to refine their skills is what makes instructing so rewarding. I also offer specialized Fear of Flying and Pinch Hitter courses designed for family members and frequent passengers. These courses help transform uncertainty into understanding, giving non-pilots the knowledge and confidence to enjoy flying more and, in the case of the Pinch Hitter course, the skills to safely assist or even land an aircraft in an emergency. For spouses wondering if these courses are really necessary... let's be honest; most couples have discovered that advice somehow sounds more convincing when it comes from someone other than their partner. Sometimes the best way to build confidence is to hear it from an independent instructor and everyone goes home happier!
